One For The Old Timers.
Did Mike Raymond when he was involved with speedway in Sydney, organise an international event for speedcars in the late 70’s or very early 80’s?
Remember speedcars were big in that era and ran on both dirt and asphalt, top super sedan drivers like Barry Graham and sprintcar drivers George Tattnell and Garry Rush were regular competitors in that division.
I believe that Mike Raymond bought out a bloke called Pancho Carter a real hard charger in the USAC midget scene, and the great A.J. Foyt to run at an event in Sydney. There may have been a few NZ drivers brought in for the event as well.
I am reading article in The Motorsport magazine about USA drivers and one of them is A.J.Foyt.
The original story about the event, may have been in The Speedway Star newspaper, as they say back in the day.
