Michelin Le Mans Cup News Notebook

Team Parker Racing is another very welcome addition to the GT3 class for the season finale in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

They bring the Porsche 911 GT3 R more usually seen in the British GT Championship for Nick Jones and Scott Malvern, the team on something of a ‘sighting mission’ ahead of 2023.



Nick Jones:

“The time was right to try something new, so where better to finish the year off than in the Algarve? I’ve been looking at the Le Mans Cup for a while now, and it’s definitely an option for next season. Our year in British GT has been a real disappointment, so there wasn’t really much for us to fight for at Donington. Instead, let’s start anew this weekend, dive into the action and have a bit of fun at Portimão and see how we go. Aside from Spa, I think I’ve done more laps round Portimão than any other European track as we test there pre-season. It’s a great layout and the weekend should be a nice change from the norm.”



The team is also keen to see how the Porsche perform on the Michelins used in Le Mans Cup against the Pirellis utilised in British GT.

At least two other British-based GT teams are actively evaluating Le Mans Cup entries in 2023, at least one with a multi-car plan.



Entirely unnoticed by this writer last time out at Spa, but pointed out by Janos Wimpffen was the switch by Rinaldi Racing from their #66 Duqueine to a new Ligier JS P320. 



The change happened after the Wednesday Collective test at Spa where the Duqueine ran, only to be replaced by the Ligier for the race meeting proper on Friday.

Bullitt Racing are weighing up 2023 options in both the Michelin Le Mans Cup and GT World Challenge Europe with expansion to a two car team for one or other Championship also on the options list.



AF Corse have fielded a completely new line-up in the #51 Ferrari this weekend, Kei Cozzolini joined by Japanese gentleman driver Koizumi Hiroshi.
