GT4 America VIR, Qualifying Report

Eric Filgueiras and Stevan McAleer swept qualifying for the Pirelli GT4 America races at VIRginia International Raceway.

The Silver Cup class #18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport RS took pole for Race 1 with Filgueras topping the timesheets in the first session, setting an initial benchmark of 1’54.230 before improving to an unbeatable time of 1’53.400.

The Race 1 grid will have Filgueiras sharing the front row with the #34 Conquest Racing with JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Gavin Sanders in second. Stephens was able to break the 1m54s threshold with a time of 1’53.955.

Behind them were the #32 Capstone Motorsports AMG GT4 of Kris Wilson in third, the #68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 of Kevin Conway in fourth, and the #51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Austen Smith in fifth.

Sixth in qualifying for Race 1 and Pro-Am Cup pole went to the #52 AutoTechnic M4 GT4 of Tom Capizzi, who was ahead of the #112 Dexter Racing GR Supra of Ryan Dexter in seventh, the #47 NOLASPORT Cayman of Scott Noble in eighth, the #120 Premier Racing Cayman of Adam Adelson ninth, and the Am Cup pole winning #36 BimmerWorld M4 GT4 of Charlie Postins in tenth.

Top times switched hands rapidly at the outset of Qualifying 2. Elliott Skeer in the #120 Premier Racing Cayman was the first to approach the low 1m53 range, taking provisional pole with a 1’53.066. Seconds later, though, it was McAleer who dropped in a massive 1’52.725 on his second flying lap.

This gives the green Community Beer Works Porsche its fourth and fifth consecutive poles of the 2022 season, as they look to maintain their unbeaten record in 2022.

Skeer’s lap was good enough to hang on to the Pro-Am Cup pole position for Race 2, just ahead of Kenton Koch in the #15 BSport Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. Michai Stephens in the #34 Conquest/JMF Mercedes was fourth, and Guy Cosmo in the #39 Cagnazzi Motorsports Mercedes was fifth.

The #89 RENNtech Motorsports Mercedes of Jon Branam took the honours of Am Cup pole for Race 2.

Results to follow.
