Shahin and Feeney Tale Pole Positions At The Bend

0 8

Yasser Shahin and Broc Feeney took a pole position each from today’s two GT World Challenge Australia qualifying sessions at The Bend.

The grids for this weekend’s two races were set across a pair of rapid-fire 15-minute qualifying sessions this evening.

The first, dedicated for the Am drivers, went the way of circuit part-owner Shahin, driving his Pro-Am class Melbourne Performance Centre Audi R8 LMS Evo.

That means he’ll start tomorrow’s opener from pole position before handing over to co-driver Garth Tander.

Shahin will be joined on the front row by Trophy Class contender Brad Schumacher who is also driving an Audi.

Prince Jefri Ibrahim was third fastest in the Triple Eight Mercedes AMG GT3 ahead of Stephen Grove (Grove Group Porsche GT3-R) and Tony Bates (Melbourne Performance Centre Audi R8 LMS Evo).

Tony Quinn (Aston Martin) led the way in the Am class.

In the second qualifying session, which included the Pro drivers for the Pro-Am runners, it was GT debutant Broc Feeney that beat some experienced heads to pole in the Triple Eight Mercedes.

He finished two-tenths clear of Bates while Tander was a further four-tenths down the road in his Audi.

Paul Stokell (Audi) was fastest of the Trophy Class cars and Ben Porter (Lamborghini Huracan) set the Am pace.

The day kicked off with a pair of practice sessions, the first topped by Bates, Porter and Schumacher in their respective classes.

Feeney was then fastest in the second practice as Porter continued to lead the Am class and Stokell topped Trophy Class.
