Provisional Revised ELMS Calendar Published

0 8

In addition to the provisional revisions to the FIA WEC calendars released today LMEM, also organisers of the ELMS and its support package have released a revised plan for the 2020 European Le Mans Series.

With the significant restriction on dates available the current proposal is for a five-race calendar of 4-hour races.

The 2020 season is now currently planned to start in Le Castellet on the 19th July with the Official Test on the 13th and 14th July, if the health conditions and the government requirements allow it – a ‘behind closed doors event is also under consideration for this fixture.

The second round will be held in Belgium with the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on the 9th August, a week prior to the WEC’s pre Le Mans visit assisting many technical partners and some teams with their logistics and supply chains.

The 4 Hours of Barcelona on the 29th August is the third race, also before Le Mans.

The ELMS season will then continue in Monza, Italy, on the 11th of October. After the Italian round, the finale of the 2020 European Le Mans Series will take place as usual in Portimão on the 1st November.

All five rounds are set to be joined by the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the new for 2020 Ligier European Series

There is no Silverstone race programmed, organisers failing to find a suitable date available.

This revised calendar stays subject to amendments according to the evolution of the ongoing crisis.

Gérard Neveu, CEO of the European Le Mans Series:

“The new 2020 ELMS calendar will last four months instead of seven. In this difficult economic and healthcare climate, we made the choice to hold five races instead of six to ensure the comfort of our competitors.

“Obviously, this new calendar is subject to changes according to the resolution of the crisis and our capacity to organise races in the countries we planned to visit at the dates mentioned above. As everyone knows, we will always prioritise the health of our competitors, our paddock and our fans.

“We also take the opportunity to implore everyone to take care of themselves and their loved ones.”

Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO: “In the context of what we are all going through now, the reprogramming of the ELMS 2020 season calendar required certain adjustments in concert with our different partners, competitors and host circuits.

“The priority is to ensure the good performance of our championships by limiting as far as possible the effects of this crisis for all.
