Meghan Markle and Prince Harry urge fans to save planet despite globe-trotting lifestyles

HARRY and Meghan have pleaded with fans to cut fossil fuel use and save the world — despite trotting around the globe several times on petrol-guzzling planes.

The royal couple told how fossil fuels are “jeopardizing this beautiful place we call home” and urged: “Let’s save it. Let’s do our part.”

In August of 2017 Harry and Meghan totalled up 10,144 miles on their holiday in Africa

But their rallying cry failed to mention they have flown around 150,000 miles in the last two years — equivalent to six times around the world.

Some of the trips totted up by The Sun were on private jets, including Meghan’s flight from New York after her baby shower.

The pair’s post, on their Instagram account, came just days after it was revealed the royal family have doubled their CO2 emissions in just one year.

While on business in 2018-19 they created 3,344 tonnes, compared with 1,687 in 2017/18.

Last night the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were accused of hypocrisy for posting their 200-word plea along with photos of penguins, plastic waste and an endangered baby turtle.

They wrote: “We can only do this together, and every little bit helps.” The message includes the US spelling of “jeopardizing”, leading to speculation that it was written by Meghan, 37.

Prince Harry, 34, was quoted as saying: “Every choice, every footprint, every action makes a difference.”

Many followers hit back, with T Reed telling the couple: “Walk the talk. Otherwise it’s hypocrisy.” Olivia Levy wrote: “Perhaps it’s time to set an example.”

Last night Kensington Palace said Harry and Meghan do “take scheduled train services and commercial flights where possible”.

They reached out to fans on Instagram but were immediately branded for hypocrisy
