‘Championship Night’ scheduled Saturday, Oct. 20 at Volunteer Speedway BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The final points event of the 2018 racing season at Volunteer Speedway is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 20, where champions will be crowned. Adult grandstand admission $10, kids age 12-and-under admitted free in the grandstands (when accompanied by an adult). Adult pit and tier-parking admission $25, kids age 12-and-under $15 (with an adult signed release). Grandstand and pit gates open Saturday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. … Drivers’ meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m., immediately followed by hot laps, qualifying, and green flag racing action on the high banks. The car count at Volunteer Speedway this season has been outstanding, and arguably no other racetrack in the state of Tennessee (the entire Southeast for that matter) has seen the overall number of drivers compete in at least one race during the current campaign (303 through the most recent racing program Saturday, Oct. 7) to equal “The Gap.” … The totals are as follows: Steel Head Late Model (64), Crate Late Model (80), Sportsman Late Model (71), Modified Street (56), and Classic (32). Who will win the Steel Head Late Model championship between Jason Cardwell of Knoxville and Chase King of Seymour? Cardwell, with 306 points leads King, who has 305 by only one-point entering Championship Night. Josh Henry of Newport sits with 275 points in third place, with Bobby Mays of Jonesborough fourth at 270, and Greg Estes of Jonesville, Va., in fifth with 207. Ross White of Knoxville sits atop the Crate Late Model points leaderboard with 331, followed in the standings by Tim Byrd (2013, ’15 and ’16 champion) of Jonesborough at 292, Gary Crittenden of Mohawk with 276, Tim Maupin of Johnson City at 259, with Josh Henry of Newport in fifth with 252. Heath Alvey of Dandridge holds a commanding advantage in the Sportsman Late Model standings with 383 points, while Tyler Smith of Kingsport has 303. Chris Coffey of Morristown with 293, Warren McMahan of Dandridge at 239, and Rex Coffey of Morristown with 237, round out top five in points. Chris Rickett of Morristown leads Modified Street standings with 373, followed by Austin Atkins of Morristown with 346, Wayne Rader of Parrottsville in third at 292, with Tracy Wolfe of Bean Station fourth at 265, and Michael Woods of Morristown at 226. In the Classic division Eli Keck of Corryton holds a narrow seven-point lead over Tony Trent of Bean Station. Keck sits with 306 points, while Trent has 299, followed by Richie Overholser of Corryton with 288, Lee Merritt of Knoxville at 260, and Chris Worsham of Knoxville with 217. Chase King leads the way in Steel Head Late Model with four feature wins on the season, while Jason Trammell and Ryan King each have two victories. Jason Cardwell, Bobby Mays, Trevor Sise, John Tweed and Dakotah Knuckles each have one win. Ross White has captured the most Crate Late Model feature wins with four.
