CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — The Latest on the NASCAR playoff race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (all times local):3:30 p.m.
Championship contender Aric Almirola had a rough close to the second stage on the roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
William Byron developed a tire problem and Almirola tried to avoid Byron's wounded car. As Almirola shot around the outside of Byron, he slammed into the wall and damaged his Ford.
Almirola took another hit when he was penalized for an uncontrolled tire violation during his pit stop.
Almirola entered the elimination race sixth in the standings. Twelve drivers will advance to the next round and four will be eliminated from playoff competition after Charlotte.
