Hoping to avoid a tenth consecutive loss, the Athletics start an inter-league series against the Philadelphia Phillies at home tonight at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. The Phillies come into today’s game with a 32-18 record, good enough for first in the National League East. Meanwhile the A’s, less than a week beyond a .500 record are now 22-29 and in fifth in the American League West.

Starting for Mark Kotsay’s Athletics tonight will be 27-year-old lefty Jacob Lopez. Lopez is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in his seven major league innings in 2025. This will be the fifth start in his career. He’ll go up against 34-year-old righty Zack Wheeler for Philadelphia. Wheeler is 5-1 with a 2.67 ERA this season. His eighty strikeouts this year rank him second in the National League.
