Women’s Soccer claims ACCAC title

0 9

After a thrilling victory against the #2 team in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) on Sophomore Day, the Cochise women’s soccer team clinches the ACCAC title for the first time in history!

The Lady Apaches beat Pima 1-0 in a fierce battle for 1st place in the ACCAC. Pima outshot Cochise 10-7. However, it was the Apaches who came through in the final 5 minutes of the game. The sophomore standout, Leticia Seabra, netted the goal off a left-footed shot just inside the box. The goal was crafted off of Leticia’s corner kick and assisted by Maria Azarias.

Previously, on last Thursday, October 17, the Lady Apaches traveled to Yuma to face the 2019 ACCAC Champions, Arizona Western. After a tough battle between two of the top teams in the conference, Cochise finished with six shots on goal and Western with 7. Cochise scored two goals, each of which were called back. Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Guzman made six saves, and along with a strong defense, shutout the Matadors. The game ended in a draw after 110 minutes of play.

The Apaches have held their last five opponents scoreless heading into the final week of conference play. The Apaches are now 8-4-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the ACCAC. Cochise will face Scottsdale CC on Wednesday, October 23, on the home field in Douglas at 2:00 p.m.

After securing the conference title, the Lady Apaches have earned a first-round bye and will host the second round of playoffs on Thursday, October 31.
