A’s clobber White Sox with 7-run first inning

OAKLAND — Franklin Barreto’s three-run homer capped a seven-run first inning and the A’s cruised to a 13-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The A’s (52-41) have homered in 14 consecutive games, their season high.

Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, including one that plated Matt Olson in the first. Olson went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a four-run fourth inning.

The Matts were stellar, but production came from the entire lineup. Chris Herrmann, Robbie Grossman, Khris Davis and Mark Canha plated runs with everyone in the starting lineup, except Ramon Laureano, collecting hits.

Chris Bassitt, who has ebbed and flowed all season, delivered a quality start following a clunker in Seattle. He managed to keep a groove between long offensive innings, lining up six shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Mananger Bob Melvin had been looking for a soft landing for Blake Treinen and got the perfect spot with a 12-0 lead in the seventh inning. The goal is for Treinen to regain his confidence and stuff, but Treinen still looked shaky. He surrendered a leadoff walk — command has been an issue for him this year — and a pair of hits to give the White Sox their two runs.
