The Coe College community lost a Kohawk legend on Saturday, October 13th. Dr. Robert L. Thurness, or 'Thurny' to many, passed away unexpectedly leaving behind a tremendous legacy as a member of Kohawk athletics.
Coach Thurness left his mark on Coe College as an athlete, coach and Athletic Director. Bob was a three-sport athlete at Coe participating in football, baseball, and track. Thurny played guard and linebacker in football, was a catcher in baseball and a sprinter and hurdler for the track team. Thurness graduated from Coe in 1962 and went on to have an outstanding career coaching both at the high school and collegiate level.
