Kozeal Named Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ Camden Kozeal has been named the Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation.
The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation’s most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.
Kozeal slashed .444/.600/.772 (8-for-18) with two doubles, a home run, eight RBI and five walks across five games during the week, helping lead Arkansas to a double midweek series sweep against Northern Colorado and an SEC road weekend series win at South Carolina. In the field, he helped turn three double plays while playing error-free defense.
The Razorback infielder capped Arkansas’s comeback in Saturday’s series-clinching 3-2 win over South Carolina with the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 10th inning. He also opened the scoring in Friday’s 22-6 rout over the Gamecocks, slugging his seventh home run of the season in the win.
