Hogs Wrap Up Second Day of Zones, Earn Two More NCAA Bids

Sophomores Lotti Hubert and Majo Sanchez secure double entries at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, as the pair both qualify in 3-meter diving on Tuesday.

Preliminary action kicked off at noon with five Arkansas divers competing including Kanah Pumphrey, Lauren French, Lotti Hubert, Majo Sanchez and Malea Martinez.

The Hogs had another successful prelim, with all five placing in the top 25. Junior Lauren French placed 25th with a score of 269.20, and sophomore Kanah Pumphrey barely missed the top 18 finals cut, placing 20th with a 280.80 outing.

For consecutive days, the trio of Hubert, Martinez and Sanchez secured finals spots. Martinez and Hubert finished in 14thand 15th place with scores of 297.90 and 295.25. Sanchez finished prelims in 4th place with a score of 340.65.

In the finals, Majo and Lotti punched their second ticket’s each, placing 5th and 12th with scores of 690.00 and 578.70. Senior Malea Martinez concluded her competition as a Razorback, barely missing the cut with a 13th place finish and a score of 577.95.

“Yesterday was a bittersweet day, the divers all dove well and our senior [Malea Martinez] just missed out again,” head diving coach Abel Sanchez said. “She fought to the end and it came down to the last dive. She went after it strong, came out of her dive beautifully but went a little over. Enough to push her out of the top 10 qualifying spots. Lotti hung in there until the last dive which she scored 60+ points. She needed it and snuck in there and earned a 3-meter spot.”

Sanchez looks to repeat her success from last season and qualify for NCAAs in all three diving events.

“I can’t say enough about Majo, she was steady Eddie and didn’t fault much,” Abel Sanchez added. “She’s a strong and dynamic diver. It’s a pleasure having her on the team. Majo along with Bryze have platform tomorrow. This is a grueling championship and we have one more day.”

The final day of the Zone Diving Championships begins tomorrow with platform diving at noon. For those following at home, action can be streamed on ESPN+.
