Coil, Wiggins on NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List

DALLAS – Arkansas’ Parker Coil and Carson Wiggins were two of 104 pitchers named to the preseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top reliever in college baseball.

The SEC led all leagues with 17 players named to the preseason watch list for the Stopper of the Year Award. The institution or conference sports information directors submitted nominees for the preseason watch list.

Wiggins, previously named a preseason All-American by Baseball America, made 14 relief appearances on the mound as a true freshman last year before suffering a season-ending injury. The hard-throwing right-hander from Roland, Okla., went 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work during his promising rookie campaign, logging three saves, good for second most on the Razorbacks, while limiting opposing hitters to a miniscule .152 average.

Coil, meanwhile, opted to return to Arkansas after being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. The left-hander from Edmond, Okla., made 14 relief appearances on the mound as a junior last season, posting a perfect 3-0 record with a 1.27 ERA, 24 strikeouts and one save in 21.1 innings. Coil was named to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional All-Tournament Team after tossing 3.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts against North Dakota State as the Razorbacks went on to punch their ticket to their 12th College World Series appearance in program history.

Seventh-ranked Arkansas, led by 24th-year head coach Dave Van Horn, begins the 2026 season against Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
