MBB Preview: Arkansas vs Queens

FAYETTEVILLE – For just the second time since Nov. 21, Arkansas will play in Bud Walton Arena when the #14 Razorbacks host Queens on Tuesday (Dec. 16). Tipoff is set for 8 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on SEC Network.

This will be the first meeting between Arkansas and Queens and just the second of three times the Razorbacks play in Bud Walton Arena in the month of December.

After Queens, Arkansas travels to Newark, N.J., and will play #8 Houston on Saturday (Dec 20) in the Prudential Center. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm (ET)/4:30 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on CBS.

NOTES:

  • Queens – officially known as Queens University Charlotte – is in its fourth year in NCAA Division I. Last year, the Royals posted a 20-15 record.
  • Trevon Brazile and Darius Acuff Jr. swept the SEC Players of the Week honors after the win over Texas Tech. Brazile had 24 points and 10 rebounds to be named SEC Player of the Week and Acuff finished with 20 points and eight assists to be selected SEC Freshman of the Week for a second consecutive week.
  • Darius Acuff Jr. ranks second among NCAA freshmen in assists (5.7) and sixth in scoring (17.7) all while his teammate Meleek Thomas is averaging 16.0 points and 3.0 assists.
  • Acuff’s numbers improve to 18.5 points and 7.25 assists when playing ranked opponents (16 & 6 at Michigan State • 21 & 5 vs Duke • 17 & 10 vs Louisville • 20 & 8 vs Texas Tech)
  • Meleek Thomas ranks 37th in the NCAA in assist/turnover ratio at 3.44 and Darius Acuff Jr. ranks 35th in the NCAA in assists (5.7).
  • Karter Knox had déjà vu versus the Red Raiders. Last year in the NCAA Sweet 16 game versus Texas Tech, Knox scored 20 points with six rebounds. This past Saturday, Knox scored 20 points and had six rebounds.
  • Arkansas is averaging 21.8 points on fastbreaks, which ranks 3rd-best in the NCAA. On the defensive end, Arkansas is only allowing 8.9 fastbreak points per game.
  • The Razorbacks rank 11th in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.88. The Hogs commit just 9.2 turnovers per game to rank 11th NCAA • 1st SEC.
