Roberson Breaks Freshman All-Around Record, Gymbacks Set Team Season High at Kentucky

Needing a big score to close out their road regular season slate, the No. 16 Gymbacks delivered in a big way as Arkansas earned a 197.725 in a loss to Kentucky, a new season high and the third-highest team score in program history.

The night was highlighted by Joscelyn Roberson’s 39.525 all-around score, which broke the previous rookie all-around record of 39.500 set by Sarah Shaffer in 2018. She didn’t score below a 9.850 on any event and matched her career high of 9.850 on bars.

One of Arkansas’ most seasoned veterans, Mati Waligora, also had an excellent night for the Gymbacks with scores of 9.925 on bars and beam and 9.950, a new career high.

Arkansas recorded a total of 10 scores of 9.9+, matching the high for the season.

Bars

Roberson got the meet out to a great start with a solid bars set, complete with stuck dismount, that went 9.850 and matched her career high. Cally Swaney followed with another stick and scored 9.825, and Kaity Ewald matched Roberson’s score, also with a stuck dismount. Priscilla Park had a great routine up fourth with just a small hop and earned a 9.850. The Maddie Jones and Mati Waligora duo both stuck their landings and added scores of 9.900 and 9.925, respectively, for a final event score of 49.375.

Vault

Arkansas was nothing if not consistent in the second rotation as the Hogs posted six matching scores of 9.850 from Cami Weaver, Ja’Leigh Lang, Dakota Essenpries, Hailey Klein, Roberson, and Frankie Price. All were solid with only small corrections on landings, which gave Arkansas a mark of 49.250 on the event and kept the momentum up for the visitors.

Floor

Following a 9.775 from Kalyxta Gamiao, Hailey Klein registered a 9.850 for the Gymbacks in the two spot. Jones got a 9.875 to keep the scores building midway through the rotation, and Waligora delivered a huge 9.950 up fourth, a new career high. Roberson followed with a 9.925, and Price matched it in the anchor position, which brought Arkansas’ floor score to 49.525, their third time hitting the mark this season.

Beam

Gamiao got beam going with a beautiful routine, complete with stick, that went 9.925 and set a new season high for her. Waligora also laid down a solid set with stuck dismount for a 9.925, her third 9.900+ score of the day. Park followed with another 9.925, and Swaney kept the stellar scoring up with a 9.900, a new season high for her. Weaver got a 9.825 in the fifth spot, which brought Roberson up to anchor. She delivered just as she always does with a 9.900, cementing a 49.575 event score for Arkansas, matching the program record on beam.
