Razorbacks Lead After Day 1 at Carmel Cup

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Three Razorbacks – Maria Jose Marin, Kendall Todd and Anna Kate Nichols – are in the top 10 after the first round as Arkansas leads the Carmel Cup, played at Pebble Beach Golf Links, after posting a 1-over-par round of 361.

The Razorbacks lead by two strokes over Mississippi State and seven strokes over third-place Vanderbilt. Mississippi State’s Julia Lopez Ramirez leads the individual race with a 6-under 66.

Jose Marin sits in a tie for second place thanks to an opening-round, 4-under 68. She carded eight birdies, playing the final four holes at 3-under. It marked her ninth career round in the 60’s, including her third in four rounds played at Pebble Beach alone.

Todd had a strong start, shooting a bogey-free, 5-under through 10 holes. She would finish day one at -2 (70) and is in sixth place. Freshman Anna Kate Nichols, making her collegiate debut, is tied for eighth after off-setting four bogeys with four birdies.

Reagan Zibilski is tied for 18th with an opening round, 3-over-par 75. Clarisa Temelo, also making her collegiate debut, overcame and early double bogey before settling for a 4-over 76 to stand in a tie for 22nd.

Giovanna Lopez rounded out the Razorback lineup by shooting 82 and is tied for 41st.

The second round is set for Saturday and the Carmel Cup will wrap up on Sunday.
