Marin and Todd Reach US Women’s Amateur Semifinals

TULSA, Okla. – Both matches involving Arkansas golfers went to extra holes in the quarterfinal and both matches ended with Razorback wins as Maria Jose Marin and Kendall Todd advanced to the semifinal at the USGA 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur, played at Southern Hills Country Club.

Marin will face Asterisk Talley in the first semifinal match at 7:30 am (CT). Todd and Rianne Malixi will follow at 7:45 am (CT).

The USGA has changed the schedule due to weather. After the semifinal matches, the first 18 holes of the championship match will be played. The final 18 holes of the championship match will resume on Sunday.

Marin, the top seed and ranked #15 in the world, faced Auburn’s Anna Davis, a 2024 All-American, the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion and is ranked 16th in the world. Marin did not lead until clinching the match on the 21st hole, but she did tie the match four times – including the 18th hole – and was never down more than one.

Davis jumped out to a 1-Up lead with a birdie on the first hole. Marin birdied the fifth hole to tie things up. The momentum bounced back-and-fourth over holes 7, 8, 9 and 10 with Davis winning holes 7 and 9 to temporarily take 1-Up leads and Marin winning holes 8 and 10 to square the match. After tying the next four holes, Davis won hole 15 to take a 1-Up lead with three holes to play. The pair had pars on holes 16 and 17 before Marin forced extra holes by winning the 18th with a par.  In extra holes, each had pars on holes 19 and 20 before Marin secured the win with a birdie on the 21st hole.

Todd, the 18th seed and ranked 130th in the world, squared off with Kelly Xu, who was part of Stanford’s 2024 NCAA Championship and a two-time All-American. Like Marin, Todd never led and was 2-Down twice in the first nine holes. Xu won holes 1 and 3. Todd cut the deficit in half by winning the fourth hole. Xu regained a 2-Up lead by winning the 9th hole. However, Todd won the 10th and 12th holes with birdies to square the match. Also like Marin, Todd was 1-Down with three holes to play as XU won the 15th hole. Todd answered by winning the 16th hole with a birdie and the pair tied the 17th and 18th holes for force overtime. After each had pars on the 19th hole, Todd won the 20th hole with a birdie to advance to the semifinal.
