No. 2 Razorbacks share lead with 31 entries in NCAA West

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 2 Arkansas will host the NCAA West First Round competition next week, May 22-25, at John McDonnell Field with 31 entries for the NCAA Championships in 15 events. A total of 24 Razorbacks qualified for the NCAA West and Arkansas has six entries in the 400m along with three entries apiece in the 800m and 5,000m.

The 31 entries for Arkansas shared the lead in the NCAA West with Texas Tech. Following are Nebraska (30), Texas A&M (30), Oregon (28), and USC (28).

With 48 entries in each event, the NCAA West First Round competition will determine the 12 individuals and relays who will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 5-8.

Razorbacks with top seeds in the NCAA West include Nickisha Pryce’s outdoor world-leading time of 49.32 in the 400m, Sanu Jallow’s school record 1:59.29 in the 800m, Sydney Thorvaldson’s 32:36.47 in the 10,000m, and Arkansas’ 3:26.10 in the 4 x 400m relay.

Top five seeds for the Razorbacks include Kaylyn Brown, Amber Anning, and Rosey Effiong ranking 2-3-4 in the 400m with times of 49.47, 49.15, and 50.75. Rachel Glenn ranks No. 2 in the 400m hurdles with a 49.02 as well as the high jump with her UA record of (1.92).

Thorvaldson’s 5,000m school record of 15:25.07 ranks No. 4 as does Laura Taborda’s 9:52.99 in the 3,000m steeplechase. The Razorback 4 x 100m relay ranks No. 3 with a 43.13.

Freshman Paityn Noe joins Thorvaldson in the 5,000m and 10,000m. Noe ranks No. 8 (15:34.49) in the 5,000m and is the second best freshman in the NCAA West. In the 10,000m, Noe is the top freshman in the field and ranks No. 14 (33:11.74).

A couple of Razorbacks who enter the NCAA West ranked among the top 12 are Aaliyah Pyatt with her 51.64 in the 400m at No. 11 as well as Destiny Huven at No. 12 in the 100m hurdles with a 13.03.
