Razorbacks Begin SEC Play at Georgia and Tennessee

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 49 Arkansas women’s tennis team (6-3) opens up Southeastern Conference play this week, traveling to No. 6 Georgia (6-3) on Friday and No. 20 Tennessee (7-2) on Sunday.

The Razorbacks are coming off a split weekend in Norman, Okla., falling to No. 18 Oklahoma and defeating Missouri State in a doubleheader. Freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso currently leads the team with a 4-0 record at the No. 3 spot and is ranked No. 74 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings. In doubles, the No. 46 duo of Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink have won their last seven matches and hold a 7-1 record on court one.

The No. 6 Bulldogs were the ITA National Team Indoors Runner-Up earlier this season, falling 4-0 to the No. 1 North Carolina Tarheels. Their last time out, Georgia defeated Georgia Tech, 4-1, only dropping a singles match on court four. The Bulldogs own seven spots in the latest ITA Rankings, five singles and two doubles pairs.

The No. 20 Volunteers will open their SEC season against the Missouri Tigers on Friday before facing Arkansas on Sunday. Tennessee has won its last three matches with its last win coming over No. 19 Central Florida, 4-3. In singles, No. 30 Rebeka Mertena is in the top spot with a 7-1 record this dual season. In doubles, Mertena pairs up with Esther Adeshina on court one and hve won their last three matches.
