Moore, Wiggins Selected to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two Razorbacks will represent Team USA this summer.

Infielder Robert Moore and pitcher Jaxon Wiggins have been selected to compete with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. The Collegiate team will not face an international opponent this summer; instead, this year’s Collegiate team will feature 48 players on two 24-man rosters, the Stars and Stripes, who will play 11 intrasquad games in July.

Moore swatted a team-leading 16 home runs for Arkansas during the 2021 season, slashing .283/384/.558 while driving in 53 runs on the year. The Razorbacks’ everyday second baseman, who was named to the All-SEC First Team and All-SEC Defensive Team, is no stranger to USA Baseball as he was a member of the 12U National Team in 2014, 14U National Team in 2016, 15U National Team in 2017 and 16U National Team in 2018.

Wiggins, meanwhile, logged 23 innings of work (17 appearances with four starts) on the mound as a true freshman during the 2021 season, striking out 28 on the year. The right-hander began the campaign as the Razorbacks’ closer and recorded four saves, including one in SEC play, before starting down the stretch.

Moore, Wiggins and the Stars and Stripes will play 10 of their 11 games in the cities of the Appalachian League, which begins its first season as a summer collegiate league as a part of the Prospect Development Pipeline. The Appalachian League also serves as a national team pathway and identification event for the Collegiate National Team and other future USA Baseball national teams.

Team USA will kick-off its 11-game tour on Friday, July 2, in Danville, Virginia, followed by a game in Burlington, North Carolina, on Saturday, July 3. USA Baseball will host the Fourth of July game at its National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, before hitting the road again to finish its season.

Greeneville, Tennessee, will host the U.S. on Tuesday, July 6, followed by Johnson City, Tennessee; Bristol, Virginia; Elizabethton, Tennessee; and Kingsport, Tennessee, in four consecutive nights.

The 11-game tour will conclude with a trio of games in Pulaski, Virginia; Princeton, West Virginia; and Bluefield, West Virginia, from July 13-15, respectively.

Moore and Wiggins join a long list of Arkansas standouts to play for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. 19 Razorbacks have suited up for the Collegiate team since 1979, including Casey Opitz (2019), Heston Kjerstad (2019), Ryne Stanek (2011 & 2012), Nick Schmidt (2006) and Jeff King (1985).
