No. 24 Arkansas Falls 4-1 at No. 22 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 24 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped a tough 4-1 decision at No. 22 Tennessee on Friday. With the loss, the Razorbacks drop to 10-6 on the season and 4-6 in Southeastern Conference play.

Arkansas won its second doubles point in three matches in the loss, giving the Razorbacks a 1-0 lead headed into singles play.

After the Hogs dropped a match in the number three spot, the No. 2 duo of senior Lauren Alter and freshman Indianna Spink made quick work of their Lady Vol counterparts, Rebeka Mertena and Daria Kuczer in a 6-4 decision. In the No. 1 position, freshman Morgan Cross and Tatum Rice defeated Tenika McGiffin and Eleonora Molinaro, 6-4 as well.

Since the Razorbacks made adjustments to the doubles lineup two weeks ago, both Arkansas’ No. 1 and No. 2 pairs are a combined 5-1.

Tennessee made a quick comeback, however, claiming three straight-set wins to take a 3-1 lead. Rice fell to No. 45 Carly Briggs 6-1, 6-3, Cross dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Daria Kuczer and junior Laura Rijkers lost a tough 6-0, 6-3 match to Tenika McGiffin.

Senior Jackie Carr fought back in the number six spot after a 6-1 set-one loss to Johanna Silva. Carr pushed Silva to the end in the second, forcing a tiebreak where Carr ultimately fell 6-1, 7-6 (1).

The Razorbacks continue their four-match road stint on Sunday at Georgia.
