Arkansas Heads To Gamecock Intercollegiate

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 13 Arkansas Women’s Golf will play in its third event of the spring season to begin next week, as Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s Hogs head to Columbia, S.C., where they will take part in the Gamecock Intercollegiate. 18 teams will take part in the event, including SEC foes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and host, South Carolina.

After returning to the lineup at the Moon Golf Invitational, and making a splash, sophomore Julia Gregg will lead the Hogs to Columbia from the No. 1 spot in the lineup. She finished the event at one-under (215), which was good for a share of 13th place. It was the first top-15 finish of her career, and the first time she finished an event under par.

Redshirt junior Brooke Matthews will tee it up this week from the second spot in the lineup. Matthews finished the Moon Golf Invitational tied for 22nd place, her only event this season finishing outside the top-15. Still, Matthews has had a great 2020-21 season so far, leading the team with seven rounds under par, including a 69 in round two at the Moon Golf Invitational.

In the third spot for Taylor will be Ela Anacona, who finished the Hogs’ last event tied for a share of 26th place. Anacona was steady in Melbourne, firing rounds of 74, 71 and 72 to finish at 217 (+1).

Freshman Cory Lopez remains in the lineup, her sixth straight appearance in the traveling party. Lopez, like Anacona, finished the Moon Golf Invitational at one-over. She played the second-best round of her young career in Melbourne, firing a 68 on day two. Her 26th place finish was the third top-30 placement of her collegiate career.

Returning to the lineup in the fifth slot is Kajal Mistry. Mistry didn’t play in the Moon Golf Invitational, but was in Taylor’s lineup for the other four events of the year so far. Despite struggling at the UCF Challenge to start the spring, Mistry was quite good in the fall, finished tied for 18th at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, while notching a 13th place finish at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic.
