Meeting Minutes – Tuesday November 26, 2019
- CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:33pm
- ATTENDANCE
Al Wills, Helena Myllyniemi, Al Anderson, Lisa Lange, Greg Birtwistle, Frank Perry, Doug Linton, Vesa Myllyniemi, Greg Cargill, Jarrod Ball, Dave Ball, Ellen Vander Hoek.
- CHAIRMAN’S OPENING REMARKS
The President welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. Al Anderson was presented with a certificate as thanks for all his hard work as President last year.
- CORRESPONDENCE
Al Wills: Received an email from a member with a suggestion of a park for a new range location; unfortunately this park is not suitable as the area is highly residential and there are too many houses close by.
- APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
The minutes of the October 29, 2019 meeting were approved. M. Jarrod Ball, S. Doug Linton. Carried.
- REPORTS AROUND THE ROOM
Al Wills: There is no formal report; the property search is continuing but not many options are out there.
Jarrod Ball: A new session for lessons is starting this Sunday (December 1). The classes are all full with long wait lists. Saanich Recreation may open another class if the interest continues to be this high.
Dave Ball: The attendance has increased at the Monday Drop-in Shoots; last Monday (November 25) there were 21 people, including some members and some attendees of classes.
Greg Cargill: Attendance at JOP has been steady at around 15 to 20 kids each session, and there is lots of interest in the program. The trials for the Winter Games will take place this Sunday December 1.
Vesa Myllyniemi: No report
Frank: The Esquimalt Anglers had written a letter to BC Transit standing against the building of a Handy Dart Facility on the current Victoria Bowmen outdoor range.
Greg Birtwistle: The outdoor range has been looking good. Junk Solutions will pick up the black garbage bags in the parking area.
Helena Myllyniemi: The club finances are doing well and the club is expecting more income from Saanich Recreation and Brookes School for lessons. Friday classes are full and have a waitlist, and Brookes School will be returning for lessons most likely in February when there is more daylight again.
Larry Gagnon (via e-mail): There are 195 members paid for between this year and next year.
- BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
- There aren’t many options opening up for a new location for an outdoor range. The club will start making plans for July when the range is no longer available. The president and Vice-President will look into meeting with the Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association in the interest of coordinating with the archery club there. The Board of Directors will discuss the logistics of moving at the January Board meeting.
- The Victoria Bowmen is officially hosting the Target and Field archery events for the 2021 Championships; 3D archery is to take place in Cranbrook.
- Five people took part in the coaching clinic that took place on November 2 and 3; 4 club members and one non-member from Sooke. Two of those participants have already completed their portfolios and the others are in the works.
- NEW BUSINESS
Dave Ball: Saanich Recreation still has classes listed at the outdoor range for June and July 2020; this needs to be rectified.

NOTE: This meeting was changed to January 28 from January 14 as the President would be unable to attend on the 14.
