Join Us with ORTOVOX at Kendal Mountain Festival 2025!
As the UK’s biggest celebration of adventure returns this Friday to Sunday (21st to 23rd November), we’re excited to be back in the heart of the festival. “Backcountry Smarter” comes to Kendal!
Our Henry (from HAT) and Mark Jones (All Mountain Pro) will be sharing their passion for off-piste and ski touring throughout the three days — spending time with the ORTOVOX team and delivering a focused presentation on Friday.
Catch Henry and Mark on the deuter Bothy Stage in the tented Basecamp village on Friday 21st November, 3:15–3:45 pm.
For all off-piste and backcountry ski enthusiasts, they’ll introduce Backcountry Smarter: a ground-breaking programme that offers a complete off-piste toolkit, blending technique, decision-making and essential safety insight to help you ski with greater autonomy, confidence and enjoyment.
Their session, hosted by Baz Roberts, is concise and practical, with plenty of room for audience involvement. This free event embraces the relaxed, conversational style of Basecamp, where questions and lively discussion are encouraged.

What the Session Offers
Backcountry Smarter helps skiers build confidence, make sound decisions and move more safely in off-piste and touring terrain — further, freer, safer. Henry and Mark will share core elements from their new programme: a practical framework combining technique, decision-making and key safety principles.
Session highlights include:

Mark (5–7 minutes) — a cornerstone of his Backcountry Skiing Technique system, plus a clear, simple way to think about “matching the rig”: pairing skis, boots and bindings that work effectively together.

Henry (5–7 minutes) — a key idea from the Safety-is-Freedom accident-reduction framework, highlighting a crucial truth: most avalanche accidents involve experienced people who simply didn’t apply the basics.
After these short insights, the session moves straight into an open conversation and audience Q&A.
The session is valuable for everyone from off-piste newcomers to seasoned backcountry skiers.

Henry and Mark will be at the ORTOVOX stand across the whole festival and may host additional informal mini-sessions.
