After sold-out nights in London, I’m really looking forward to bringing our Backcountry Smarter Talks to the North — two evenings in Manchester followed by two in Glasgow. Each city hosts our Essentials Talk and a more In-Depth follow-up.
Delivered along with Mark Jones (ICE co-founder, ex-director and founder of All Mountain Pro), these sessions are all about building backcountry autonomy — simple methods that transform both your skiing and your decision-making.

- Equipment: how to match skis, boots & bindings as one “rig” (plus essential safety kit) so your setup helps — not hinders — your skiing.
- Technique: output-focused coaching for control, line choice and speed management (arc length vs skidding — the “series of linked recoveries” mindset).
- Risk Management: terrain-first decisions (30° threshold, Safe(r) Zones), common traps to avoid, and how to use the Pocket Guide & Scoring System — a tool to apply education, knowledge, experience and training… points that are sadly, all too often not applied despite clear signs of danger.
