Vonn, Hanyu in spotlight at Games with nine golds up for grabs
Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - US ski star Lindsey Vonn was set to enter the fray at the Winter Olympics in alpine skiing‘s super-g races in one of nine medals events at the Pyeongchang Games on Saturday.At her fourth Olympics, 33-year-old Vonn is seeking her second gold medal after winning the downhill at the Vancouver 2010 Games. She also won bronze in the super-g in Vancouver but missed the Sochi Games four years ago through injury.It was, however, a delayed start for racers at the Jeongseon alpine centre due to high winds at the top part of the course on a bright, sunny day at the Games.In another Games highlight, Sochi 2014 champion and world champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan was seeking to become the first figure skater since 1952 to successfully defend the men‘s singles Olympic title. He led after Friday‘s short programme.Freestyle skiing women‘s slopestyle, the women‘s 4x5km relay in cross-country skiing, men‘s 1,000m and and women‘s 1,500m short track, the women‘s 12.5km mass start in biathlon, the final two runs in women‘s skeleton and the men‘s large hill in ski-jumping make up the medals programme.
