Southeast Minnesota coaches debunk the stigma of weight cutting in high school wrestling
CHATFIELD, Minn. — Zach Curry still gets flashbacks of cutting weight during his wrestling days. The former Chatfield and Rochester Community and Technical College wrestler remembers the hungry, sleepless nights, the chewing of ice chips, the drops of lemon juice. He figured it was all a part of the wrestling life. "I would just put ice in my mouth, crunch, crunch, spit it out, and lie down and hopefully fall asleep before my mouth dried up again," Curry said. "That was just normal. That comes with the territory: lemon juice in your locker, chew on ice. This is part of being a wrestler. "But knowing what I know now, I would have done it a lot differently."
