Sometimes it’s odd when life reminds you how old you are in an unexpected way. A couple weeks ago, I got a message from my friend Rick Ray that he was going to retire from coaching girls basketball in Two Harbors. Rick’s been the junior varsity coach, statistician and varsity assistant for the Agate girls for 41 years — meaning I was seven when he started. Still, when I did the math and thought about how long I’ve been involved in local sports — particularly in Lake County — I realized I witnessed more than a quarter of Rick’s career.
