LIVONIA — The most stunning development at the Adam Mitchell KLAA-MIHL Showcase wasn’t that Howell beat Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, but the lopsided margin of victory. The Highlanders took on one of the best teams in Michigan and handed the Eaglets a 9-1 thumping on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Eddie Edgar Ice Arena. It was St. Mary’s biggest margin of defeat since losing 8-0 to Detroit Catholic Central in a regional championship game on March 7, 2015. St. Mary’s is the defending state Division 3 champion, is ranked No. 1 in Division 3 and No. 5 across all divisions, and entered the game with an 8-1 record.
