Eight games into this season, St. Ignatius’ playoff hopes were on the slipperiest of slopes. A loss at Valley Christian would have most likely left the San Francisco school home for the postseason one year after it captured the Central Coast Section’s top playoff division. But the Wildcats beat Valley, costing the San Jose school a postseason berth, and toppled rival Sacred Heart Cathedral to close the regular season.
