CHATFIELD — When Harper Goldsmith started dressing as a varsity player when she was in seventh grade, she wasn’t the superstar setter she is today, but rather a defensive specialist. She worked her way up, learning the setter position inside and out in fewer than six years. Before she knew it, she was running Chatfield’s offense with ease. In many ways, she acts as the quarterback, putting up the perfect ball for a slew of versatile hitters to slam down. Eventually, the senior’s name popped up again and again during conversations about the best volleyball players around the state.
