Reinier de Ridder Tipped as Massive Threat to Khamzat Chimaev
Since joining the UFC, former two-division ONE Championship titleholder Reinier de Ridder has quickly made a name for himself with a series of impressive victories.
Notably, de Ridder previously submitted Kevin Holland and recently halted the momentum of former champion Robert Whittaker in a significant main event clash in Abu Dhabi.
Already considered a major force in the 185-pound division, de Ridder has been touted as a potential future opponent for the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev, especially since Chimaev`s ascent to title contention against Dricus du Plessis in August.
According to former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns, de Ridder might pose the greatest threat to Chimaev`s reign among the current middleweight contenders.
“I think from the whole division, he’s the one that has more chance,” Burns commented on the Buiten De Kooi MMA podcast. “I was speaking with Chimaev’s jiu-jitsu coach – we`ve fought before – and I asked, ‘Who do you think is the hardest fight?’”
“I suggested RDR, and he agreed, ‘Me too.’ I’ve seen all of RDR’s videos and studied his fights. It won`t be an easy bout for Chimaev, but de Ridder needs to secure another win first.”
