Stipe Miocic Claims He Exposed Weaknesses in ‘Beatable’ Jon Jones During Retirement Fight Loss
Stipe Miocic, widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, shared intriguing insights about his final mixed martial arts bout. In 2024, Miocic concluded his career with a last title fight against Jon Jones, who himself is considered a contender for the greatest fighter of all time.
After a hiatus of over three years since his last Octagon appearance, Miocic faced Jones at UFC 309. This highly anticipated main event marked Jones`s first, and ultimately last, defense of his heavyweight title. Given Miocic`s age and extended break, many observers anticipated an easy victory for Jones, a prediction that seemed to materialize with a TKO stoppage in the third round. Nevertheless, despite the unsuccessful conclusion to his UFC career, Miocic asserts that his final bout was far from a one-sided affair.
Miocic Believes Jon Jones is “Beatable” Despite TKO Loss
The heavyweight legend`s final bout concluded after Jones landed a powerful spinning body kick to Miocic. However, according to Miocic, he was having success up until that point. In a recent interview on Sofascore`s “A Guest and a Half” show, Miocic suggested he identified numerous openings against Jones before being stopped by a strike that he believes should not have connected.
“We were going back and forth,” Miocic recounted. “Then he hit me with a spinning kick. I trained specifically for that move, but I missed by just an inch. He’s good, very good. But he has weaknesses. I believe I exposed a few. He is beatable,” Miocic concluded.
UFC 320 Star Names All-Time Best American Fighter, and It`s Not Jon Jones
Many regard Jones as the greatest UFC fighter of all time; this year, he concluded his illustrious career in the Octagon, joining Miocic in retirement. However, UFC 320 title challenger Cory Sandhagen not only disagrees with this sentiment but doesn`t even consider “Bones” the best American fighter. In an interview with TNT Sports prior to his fight against Merab Dvalishvili this Saturday, Sandhagen chose Chuck Liddell over Jones. Regarding the overall GOAT debate, “The Sandman” selected Anderson Silva.
