Furious UFC star slams those responsible for post-fight brawl that left Wanderlei Silva out cold

A UFC fighter believes significant damage has been inflicted upon Brazil`s combat sports scene following a chaotic brawl last Saturday night.

Wanderlei Silva made a contentious return to combat sports on September 27th, participating in an exhibition boxing match seven years after his last appearance in mixed martial arts.

The legendary figure from Pride and UFC promotions faced Acelino Freitas, a two-time Brazilian boxing champion, at Spaten Fight Night 2. The announcement of the bout earlier this year was met with considerable criticism, as many were reluctant to see the 49-year-old Silva compete again.

Their gravest fears of a disturbing incident materialized, though not during the fight itself.

Caio Borralho expresses dismay over Spaten Fight Night brawl after Wanderlei Silva`s disqualification

Wanderlei Silva ultimately suffered a knockout at the event, but this occurred during a post-fight melee involving his opponent’s son. `The Axe Murderer` was disqualified for repeatedly head-butting Freitas, leading to both teams flooding the ring and exchanging blows following the controversial ending.

Medical personnel eventually intervened to assist the unconscious Silva, bringing the skirmish to a halt. However, the aftermath has led to intense scrutiny of all involved parties.

Among the critics of the events that transpired at ARCA Spaces in Sao Paulo is UFC middleweight contender Caio Borralho. The “Fighting Nerds” standout sharply condemned those involved, suggesting the brawl would have long-lasting negative repercussions on how combat sports are perceived in Brazil.

“All this time the sport fighting for people to see us as decent and civilized beings for this?” Borralho questioned on X.

He added, “Imagine now being a fighter and wanting sponsorship from a big brand in Brazil and them having this embarrassment from today as a reference??? The athletes lose a lot with this.”

Wanderlei Silva’s manager provides encouraging health update

Despite the alarming scene in the ring as security brought the brawl under control, a positive update regarding Silva`s condition was released.

A report from Combate cited Silva’s manager, stating that the Pride legend was transported to a hospital “as a precaution.” CT scans of his head and cervical spine reportedly showed no significant damage.

Silva’s favorable health update was well-received, especially given the brutal nature of the knockout punch, which left `The Axe Murderer` bruised and bleeding heavily. So much so, that three towels were reportedly needed to clean the blood-stained canvas.

However, while the Brazilian may not have sustained immediate severe damage from the blow, this knockout comes merely a year after Silva disclosed concerning symptoms of brain trauma in a letter supporting the UFC antitrust settlement.
