Carlos Ulberg Issues Bold Challenge to Pereira and Ankalaev Ahead of UFC 320
A new force has emerged in the light heavyweight division. At UFC Perth, Carlos Ulberg, currently ranked #3, delivered a dominant performance that unequivocally declared his readiness for a title shot.
Building on recent victories against former champion Jan Blachowicz and ex-title contender Volkan Oezdemir, Ulberg showcased his striking prowess with a flawless first-round knockout of Dominick Reyes.
This impressive victory comes just one week before the highly anticipated light heavyweight championship rematch between titleholder Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, scheduled to headline UFC 320 in Las Vegas. Following his win, Ulberg made it clear: he`s next in line for the winner.
Ulberg Eyes Winner of Ankalaev vs. Pereira 2
In his post-fight interview, Ulberg revealed that he had already spoken with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell about attending UFC 320 cageside.
“That’s exactly what we wanted,” Ulberg stated regarding his knockout. “I just spoke to Hunter, and we’re gonna be talking about something. Fly me to Vegas so I can go there and witness those guys fight. All the best for them, but I’m gonna be there in the flesh.”
When pressed for a message to the main event fighters, Ulberg echoed the famous words of former champion Jiri Prochazka:
“I’m coming!”
During the UFC Perth post-fight show, Ulberg further elaborated on his preference, expressing a desire to face Ankalaev over Pereira.
“I can take him out,” Ulberg confidently asserted. “Nobody’s been able to beat him other than Paul Craig.”
Carlos Ulberg Offers to Serve as UFC 320 Backup Fighter
Having absorbed only five strikes during his four-minute bout with Reyes, Ulberg emerged from the fight largely unscathed. The 34-year-old expressed his willingness to step in as the official backup fighter for the upcoming title rematch, ready to replace any withdrawal on short notice.
“Keep my weight at a minimum and I’ll be there,” Ulberg confirmed his intentions for UFC 320.
With this latest triumph, Ulberg`s professional record now stands at an impressive 13-1, extending his current win streak to nine fights. The City Kickboxing standout is clearly making a strong case for his first UFC title opportunity.
