UFC Athletes Set To Visit Boys & Girls Club Of Newark
UFC returns to Newark for its fourth consecutive year this Saturday May 9, as Prudential Center hosts UFC® 328: CHIMAEV VS STRICKLAND. Before the action inside the Octagon, UFC athletes will take part in various community events throughout Newark.
To kick off fight week, on Wednesday, May 6, UFC athletes, New Jersey Devils players, and government dignitaries will spend time with local youth and join the daily afternoon programming at Boys & Girls Club of Newark.
To commemorate the organization’s fourth consecutive trip to New Jersey, the MMA brands charitable arm, the UFC Foundation, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the first-ever UFC Youth Wellness Center.
Designed in partnership with NJSEA, HBSE/Prudential Center, Devils Youth Foundation, and Boys & Girls Club of Newark, the center is designed to serve as a safe, supportive environment that focuses on mental, physical and emotional health for local youth. Representatives including UFC light heavyweight Khalil Rountree, former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, New Jersey Devils defenseman Johnny Kovacevic, New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen, former New Jersey Devils Defenseman Colin White, New Jersey Devils mascot NJ Devil, and government dignitaries will be on hand to take part in the special ceremony.
Following the ceremony and tour of the new facility, UFC athletes, alongside New Jersey Devils players, Prudential Center and Devils Youth Foundation employees will spend time with the local youth to provide background of their stories while offering positive words of encouragement.
