Subkhankulov Vs. Usmonov Approved For IBF #2 Lightweight Eliminator
An IBF lightweight eliminator between IBF No. 8 contender Artur Subkhankulov and IBF No. 10 contender Bakhodir Usmonov has been officially approved, with the winner earning the IBF No. 2 ranking.
Usmonov, who is also ranked No. 3 by the WBA and No. 10 by the WBC, brings strong credentials into the bout as a two-time Olympian representing Tajikistan.
With the IBF’s No. 1 and No. 2 positions currently vacant, the stakes are particularly high.
“This is a high-stakes fight for both men,” said promoter Peter Maniatis. “With the No. 1 and No. 2 spots vacant, the winner of Usmonov vs. Subkhankulov will be in a prime position in the IBF rankings.”
Maniatis also praised Subkhankulov’s pedigree and potential:
“In my opinion, Artur Subkhankulov is a tremendous talent. He was an outstanding amateur and had a great battle with Keyshawn Davis in 2018. Now, as a professional, he remains undefeated and is capable of fighting for a world title.”
The winner of the eliminator will be in line for major opportunities in the lightweight division, including a potential shot at IBF lightweight champion Raymond Muratalla, as well as high-profile matchups against top contenders such as Andy Cruz and Albert Bell.
