A drunk driver struck a trooper who was attending to another driver under the influence of drugs.

Around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, the trooper responded to a sedan that had stopped in a lane of I-495 in Fairfax County.

As the officer talked with the driver in the sedan, a Jeep Cherokee hit a tractor-trailer that had stopped and was spun out of control, hitting the patrol car and the trooper.

“It’s a constant thing where, even when I’m out on the side of the road either working an accident or writing a summons to somebody, I’m having to yell at people to move over in order to make sure they are able to tow a vehicle safely,” said Virginia State Trooper EJ Pritchett.
