Not Alvarez: Arsenal must now sign £55m French striker, he's a "generational talent" - opinion

0 1

Arsenal could enter the transfer market for a new centre-forward this summer.

The Gunners made a huge outlay on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres last summer. The Swede has made a good contribution with 18 goals across all competitions.

However, there is room for more competition in the department. Kai Havertz looks poised to stay next season, but there is a strong possibility that Gabriel Jesus could leave.

The Brazilian has hardly started in the Premier League in recent months. The club could seek to reduce his huge salary from their wage bill, with his contract expiring next year.

The Gunners have a genuine interest in Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, but a deal could be difficult to pursue as the La Liga outfit consider him a key player in their ranks.

The Spanish giants could easily demand upwards of £100 million for the World Cup winner. There is also no indication that the Argentine could open the door for a move.

In our view, Arsenal should explore a deal for a younger striker with immense potential.

Bournemouth signed Junior Kroupi from sister club Lorient last year for £12 million, and the Frenchman has had a good debut season in the Premier League with 10 goals thus far.

The 19-year-old started the campaign as a regular substitute, but he has become an integral part of manager Andoni Iraola’s starting plans after Antoine Semenyo’s winter exit.

He has played just 1,246 minutes in the league, but has shown his glowing potential. Kroupi has played as a striker or from an attacking midfield position for the South Coast outfit.

The youngster has a sublime shot-to-goal conversion rate of 28 percent, and his clever positioning in and around the box has been another highlight during the ongoing campaign.

Caught Offside claim that the Cherries could sanction his sale for at least £55m. That would not be a surprise this summer, given that Bournemouth generally sell for the right package.

Kroupi may not be a household name at the moment, but he is a ‘generational talent‘ as described by Marcus Tavernier. Arsenal should seek to land his services instead of Alvarez.
