Dowman sets another Champions League record in Sporting win

0 1

Arsenal youngster Max Dowman set yet another milestone during the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Sporting CP in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League clash.

The 16-year-old midfielder was introduced in the second half, replacing Noni Madueke, and showed flashes of his talent despite finding it difficult to overcome Sporting fullback Maximiliano Araújo.

While his impact on the game was limited, his appearance in the 77th minute was enough to secure a place in the competition’s history.

At just 16 years and 97 days old, Dowman became the youngest player to feature in a UEFA Champions League knockout match, underlining his rapid development under manager Mikel Arteta.

The England youth international is enjoying a breakout season, having already made nine senior appearances across all competitions. His rise has been remarkable, earning the trust of Arteta and further highlighting his immense potential.

Dowman has also been rewriting record books in the Premier League. After making his senior debut in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan at the age of 15, he went on to make Premier League history with his debut against Leeds United during the 2024/2025 season.

He became the second-youngest player to debut in the league at 15 years and 235 days, behind teammate Ethan Nwaneri.

The teenager also holds the record as the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history after netting a late solo effort in a 2-0 win over Everton FC at the Emirates Stadium.
