Arsenal face uphill battle for the signature of sensational Bundesliga striker

0 2

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of Christian Kofane following the young forward’s impressive performances for Bayer Leverkusen this season, particularly in the Champions League.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe after adapting quickly to life in the Bundesliga since joining Leverkusen last summer from Albacete Balompie.

Leverkusen paid around €5 million to sign the Cameroon international, but his value has risen sharply following a series of strong performances in both domestic and European competitions.

Kofane has contributed seven goals and eight assists across all competitions during his debut campaign in Germany, numbers that underline his rapid development at one of Europe’s most progressive clubs.

His reputation grew further after an eye-catching display in the first leg of Leverkusen’s Champions League Round of 16 tie, where he caused constant problems for the Arsenal defence with his pace, movement and direct running.

According to reports in Germany, Arsenal scouts have been following the forward closely as they assess potential attacking reinforcements for the future.

The Gunners are said to be impressed not only by Kofane’s attacking output but also by his versatility, as the teenager is capable of playing both as a central striker and in wide forward positions.

That tactical flexibility fits the type of attacking profile often favoured by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, whose side rely heavily on dynamic wide players and fluid attacking rotations.

Leverkusen are aware of the growing interest in their young star and are believed to have placed a valuation of between €60 million and €70 million on the player ahead of the summer transfer window.

Such a fee would represent a dramatic increase on the modest amount the German club paid to bring him from Spain less than a year ago.

Arsenal are not the only club keeping track of the situation, with several other Premier League teams also monitoring the teenager’s development.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also believed to have taken notice of his performances during Leverkusen’s European campaign.

Kofane has also begun establishing himself at international level after breaking into the Cameroon national team setup.

The forward made his senior debut for Cameroon in December and has already collected multiple caps while scoring twice for his country.

For now, Kofane remains focused on continuing his development at Bayer Leverkusen, but his impressive debut season has ensured that some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, are watching his progress closely.
