"Very difficult": Bournemouth manager makes Arsenal claim after Manchester United draw
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola spoke about the Premier League game against Arsenal following the 2-2 Premier League draw against Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium.
The Cherries picked up a 15th stalemate in the top-flight campaign against United yesterday. They are just two away from the all-time record for a 38-game Premier League season set by three different clubs.
Speaking after the result, Iraola said that Bournemouth deserved more in some of those 15 draws and added that it will be ‘very difficult’ to continue that run against Arsenal on the road.
The 43-year-old acknowledged that the Cherries will have to be very good to secure a point.
He told BBC MOTD: “A draw against United is a good result. But 15 draws, some of those we deserved more. We have equalled record in the Premier League with 11 games but it’s going to be very difficult to beat it because we play Arsenal away next. We will have to be very good to beat that record.”
Arsenal went nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the standings after a dramatic 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium. Viktor Gyokeres broke the deadlock in the 89th minute.
Max Dowman put the gloss on the performance with a sublime solo goal. Man City have a game in hand against Crystal Palace, but their recent form has been inconsistent under manager Pep Guardiola.
Two costly draws against Nottingham Forest and West Ham mean that they are no longer in control of their own destiny. The Gunners have the chance to increase the gap further after the international break.
Arsenal will host Bournemouth in an early kick-off on April 11. Man City, on the other hand, have a tougher assignment at Chelsea the next day. Mikel Arteta’s side could take the lead to double figures.
Still, it won’t be a cakewalk for the Gunners. The Cherries did the league double over them last season. Arsenal have the opportunity to repeat the feat, having won 3-2 on the South Coast this term.
The club’s immediate focus will turn to the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal will be aiming to pick up their first piece of silverware since the FA Cup in August 2020.
