Liverpool legend stunned by maturity of Arsenal ace who completed 92% passes vs Everton

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has expressed admiration for the remarkable maturity shown by teenage sensation Max Dowman following his impressive performance in Arsenal’s 2–0 victory over Everton in the Premier League.

Dowman, who came on as a substitute for Martin Zubimendi in the 75th minute, sealed the win with virtually the final kick of the match at the Emirates Stadium.

His goal came moments after Viktor Gyökeres had given Arsenal the lead, ensuring the Gunners secured all three points.

The strike also saw the 16-year-old make history as the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 73 days, surpassing the long-standing record set by James Vaughan, who scored for Everton at 16 years and 270 days in 2005.

Speaking to ESPN, Nicol said he was astonished by Dowman’s composure and football intelligence at such a young age.

“It’s just not normal. To have the maturity and the football brain to do the things that he does,” Nicol said.

“When he comes on previously, he has done some great things as well. But in terms of today {on Saturday}, to have the maturity, coolness, and calmness to score the goal, at 16, it is just not normal.”

Despite playing only 22 minutes, Dowman delivered a composed display that helped Arsenal maintain control in the closing stages of the match.

The teenager completed 12 of his 13 passes with an impressive 92 percent accuracy, including 10 successful passes in the opposition half, while also creating two key passes during his brief appearance.

Dowman’s influential cameo helped Arsenal secure the victory and extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points ahead of Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.

His historic goal and assured performance have further highlighted the rising star’s immense potential within Mikel Arteta’s squad.
