Arsenal join Chelsea, Manchester United in race for England’s talented centre-back

0 2

Premier League leaders Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing highly rated England centre-back Samuel Amissah ahead of the summer transfer window.

Amissah, who currently plays for Fulham, has attracted attention from several top Premier League sides following his impressive performances for the Cottagers’ youth setup.

The teenage defender has delivered quality displays for the U21s in the Premier League 2, helping the Cottagers remain firmly in the title race, just two points behind leaders Chelsea.

His outstanding performances earned him promotion to the senior squad, with the young defender making the matchday bench seven times for Fulham under manager Marco Silva this season.

He was included among the substitutes in five Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leeds United.

In addition, Amissah was also listed on the bench during Fulham’s 3–1 victory over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup and in their EFL Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers.

According to the Telegraph, his contract with Fulham is set to expire at the end of the season, a situation that has drawn the attention of several top Premier League clubs.

Arsenal view the potential signing as a strategic addition, aimed at strengthening their youth ranks while also providing depth for the senior squad during the campaign.

The North London club are particularly impressed by his versatility, as he can operate in multiple roles, including defensive midfield and full-back, offering cover for Jurrien Timber and Ben White.

However, Arsenal may face competition, with Chelsea and Manchester United also keeping close tabs on his situation as part of their ongoing strategy to recruit highly rated young talents capable of progressing into the senior team in the near future.

Manchester United have previously shown their willingness to invest in young talent, as seen in the signings of Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal in recent transfer windows.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, both youngsters have progressed quickly and have already featured for the first team in the Premier League.

Chido Obi made seven league appearances under Ruben Amorim last season, while Heaven has enjoyed more involvement, playing 17 Premier League matches for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Amissah is also drawing attention beyond England, with several European clubs closely tracking his progress.

Dutch giants Ajax, Italian powerhouse Juventus, and French side Marseille are all said to be monitoring his situation and development.

With his deal running down, the youngster could join a domestic rival this summer, with a tribunal expected to determine the compensation fee.

Alternatively, a move abroad remains possible, which would require a smaller compensation payment.
