Former Arsenal star says ex-Man United bad boy can help Gunners flourish
Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires believes Mason Greenwood can play a key role in helping Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri adapt to life at Olympique de Marseille.
Nwaneri joined the Ligue 1 club on loan during the winter transfer window after struggling for regular opportunities at Arsenal.
Despite signing a new contract last summer, the teenage midfielder made just six Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
The youngster has already featured four times for Marseille in the league, logging 189 minutes as he bids to establish himself in the first team.
Speaking to Laprovence, Pires expressed confidence that the England youth international has the mentality and technical quality to succeed in France.
“The English aren’t afraid of anything – I’m not worried about him,” Pires said. “He is technically very good, he takes players on, he provokes.
“Over the last three months, Habib Beye can bring him something, and vice versa.
“What is good for him is that Habib speaks English very well. Mason Greenwood will also help him.”
Ethan Nwaneri made an impressive start to life in Ligue 1, netting a superb solo effort in the 3-1 victory over Lens at the Orange Velodrome.
However, his game time has dropped since manager Roberto De Zerbi left the club. The 18-year-old has featured for just 19 minutes of action since then.
By contrast, Greenwood has been one of the club’s standout performers after being ditched by Manchester United due to his off-field behaviour.
