18x possession lost, 0 crosses: Arteta must now drop £38m Arsenal star vs Tottenham after lacklustre display
Arsenal suffered a big setback in their pursuit of the Premier League title after a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium.
The Gunners went into the game with a four-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table, and had the chance to extend the advantage to seven points.
Bukayo Saka provided a perfect start with an early goal with a header before Piero Hincapie doubled the club’s advantage early in the second half.
However, Wolves fought back with a stunning goal from Hugo Bueno. The Midlands outfit capitalised on a defensive mix-up to equalise at the death.
Gabriel Magalhaes had an easy clearance, only for David Raya to gift possession trying to catch the ball.
Wolves’ resultant shot from Tom Edozie found its way into the net after a deflection off Riccardo Calafiori.
There were many disappointing displays in the second half, including Raya, but the Spaniard will certainly continue in goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, we expect manager Mikel Arteta to make a change in the right-back role after a lacklustre performance from Jurrien Timber last night.
The Dutchman offered little attacking threat and was indecisive in his decision-making.
The £38 million signing did not provide a single accurate cross into the box (0/2) and was guilty of losing possession on 18 occasions over 90 minutes.
Timber had one of his worst games of the campaign and should have been replaced by Ben White, given the way he was losing the ball during the second half.
In our view, Arteta must make a change at right-back for the north London derby on Sunday. White should get the nod to start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Arsenal are five points ahead of Man City at the top of the league after the Wolves draw, but the Cityzens have a game in hand against Crystal Palace yet to be rescheduled.
