93% passing: Arsenal interested in signing "world-class" midfielder, who wants Premier League move
Arsenal are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer this summer, according to Bild (page 11).
The Germany international was linked with a deadline-day move to the Gunners earlier this month after Mikel Merino sustained a foot injury.
However, nothing materialised beyond the speculation. Bild now claim that the 31-year-old could still end up moving to the Premier League.
Goretzka has announced that he will leave Bayern when his contract concludes on June 30.
The Schalke 04 graduate ‘would like to move to the Premier League’ this summer. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be ‘interested’.
Goretzka move depends on playing time compromise
Goretzka has been a regular starter for Bayern in the Bundesliga this term. He has completed 93 percent of his passes in the heart of the midfield and has chipped in with a couple of goals.
Outside of the German top-flight, Goretzka has been a regular on the bench for the Bavarian heavyweights. He may have to accept a similar role to join the Gunners on a free transfer.
Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice are nailed-on starters in central midfield for Arsenal, while Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze have been competing for the attacking midfield position.
In our view, Goretzka may have to accept a reduced squad role, similar to that of Merino and Christian Norgaard, to make the switch. Otherwise, we don’t see him signing for the Gunners.
Goretzka, described as ‘world-class‘ by Bundesliga.com, will most likely join another Premier League outfit (probably Spurs), where he can count on regular playing time during the 2026/27 season.
