Arsenal man addresses knee concern before crucial title run

0 2

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has spoken about the knock he suffered during the 1-1 Premier League draw with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The midfielder was involved in the moment that led to Brentford’s goal. He went down while trying to deal with a dangerous set piece inside the box.

Odegaard attempted to clear the dropping ball under pressure. Instead, he made contact with an opponent and overstretched his leg in the process.

Despite the scare, he stayed involved in the match. He featured in the second half after coming on as a substitute for Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal now prepare for their FA Cup fourth round clash against Wigan Athletic. Ahead of that fixture, Odegaard addressed concerns about his fitness.

Odegaard explains Brentford injury scare

Speaking about the incident, the Norwegian shared details of what happened in the build-up to the goal.

He said: “I picked up a bit of an injury when they scored their goal, but hopefully it’s not too bad. We’ll see how it goes in the build-up to today’s game and over the next few days.

“I tried to clear the ball as it came down, but instead kicked into the player a bit, and ended up over-stretching my leg, which pinched the knee. I was able to carry on, but on Friday morning it was very sore, so I was worried of course, but thankfully it looks like it’s not too bad.”

His words offered some relief for supporters.

The captain admitted he felt pain the following morning, which raised concern.

However, early signs suggest the issue may not be serious. He remains hopeful of being available in the coming days.

Focus shifts to Wigan and Wolves

Arsenal will look to return to winning form against Wigan. The FA Cup tie provides another opportunity to win a major honour.

After that, attention turns back to league action. The Gunners travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit four points clear at the top of the table.

With major honours still in sight, maintaining fitness will be key.

Odegaard will hope the knee problem settles quickly as Arsenal chase success on all fronts.
